Every night I’m looking forward to an awesome threesome date night with my bed, and pillows, and that’s the most exciting part of each day..going home and sleeping. OR it's when you know you're just getting old. SMH.
I’m turning 29 next month (OMG! HELPPP!!!) Yeah, I know like you care. HAHA!
But aside from Youtube life hack videos, learning that the letter "n" in 7ELLEVEN's logo is a small letter, and using oatmeal as a facial mask (which looks disgusting but apparently it's a thing) here are some essential lessons in life that I have learned in 28 years of living.
I’ve written this on Buzzfeed a year ago, but sharing it again coz I guess we all need to be reminded by these things every now and then.
1. Enjoy Small Things
It's a clichè to say that life is short, but most of the time, it's the small things that make us happy the most.
2. Struggle is Good
In life, we can't always be in our comfort zone. We need a challenge every now and then to know how far we can go, and how strong we are.
3. Don't Complain
Inevitable.. But there will be times that we will need to just suck it in because complaining won’t do anything.
4. Take More Risks
Don't die wondering, do something!
5. Lead the Way
In a situation where everyone ends up looking at each other and doesn't know what to do, this is perhaps is where you should lead the way in making a decision.
6. Don't Start a Relationship if you are not in love
DUH! Unless you’re an idiot!
This will do nothing hurt both parties. It's unfair to begin with, and guilt will haunt you.
7. Be Grateful
8. Life is the Largest Stage
Make the most out of everything, no regrets. Well you know what they say, “YOLO!!!” Haha!
9. Never let an argument last
Never hold a grudge it just makes things worse.
10. Learn to forgive and forget
Move on, get over it, and live life.
12. Spend some time alone with yourself
Learning to spend some alone time, will teach you more about yourself, and help you grow to become a better person.
13. Be Nice
We're all going through or have gone through some tough times. You'll never know if someone is struggling with an emotional damage, so just be nice.
14. Cherish those you love, you'll never know when you'll ever see them again
I hate it when people leave (who doesn’t?) I was just telling one of my closest friends (who is also leaving by fall :( ) that everytime I get close to someone, they start leaving or I do. :(((
But these are the people that don't judge, and they'll be the only ones who'd love you no matter what.
15. Those who aren't easiest to love, are the ones who need love the most
16. Nothing is constant, but change
Sometimes you have to learn it the hard way, which sucks because it hurts. Accept change, and move forward---life goes on, so WTVR.
17. Every man has their own right to choose their own destiny
Let them be.
18. Don't blame people
It's no one's fault. In a situation where something goes wrong, both sides could always be at fault; just to be equal, there should be no one to blame.
But yeah, could be too much vodka.
19. Create, Create, and Create
Be creative. As you find time to yourself, there are always ways of exploring, and one of these could be by creating.
20. Looking back in the past is only good for learning; not sulking
Things in the past happen for us to learn from our mistakes and teach us to do better in the future.
21. Be generous
Be generous with your time and experience as much as you can.
Time is always more important than fancy dinners, getaways, and designer bags. The simpler the better. (OMG I sound like a hippie...but it’s true :p)
22. Do nothing for money, but for passion
Have so much passion for the job you have, that it wouldn't feel like work at all. We all know that, but it’s quite rare to hear people say “I LOVE MY JOB” without sarcasm.
23. "Expect anything worthwhile to take a long time"
Applies to all aspects of life. From your job to relationships. Everything needs effort and time...AND TIME. (had to count that twice to make sure)
24. Don't judge
Looks can always be deceiving. You can't judge a person especially if you don't even know who they are completely.
25. Think about others
Don't just think about yourself, think about other people too. Be more considerate of their feelings as well.
26. Your heart is your best compass
Trust your gut.
Think and move, always with your heart
27. Give without expecting anything in return
Well, you know what they say, " It's better to give than to receive ." Besides, giving is so much fulfilling.
28. The secret to happiness is self-acceptance
Remember to love yourself first before you could give love and yourself to any other person.
Love yourself but don’t be a narcissist. :p
29. Don't care what other people think
It's your life, not theirs so f*** off!
30. Remember what your mother taught you, it is from the most sacred place of love that exists.
Enough said. Moms are awesome.
31. The truth will set you free
There’s nothing painful than the truth but nothing more annoying than being lied to.
It's gonna hurt for a while, but it's better than believing a lie and living with it.
32. Don't be so hard on yourself
You sure are your own critic, but remember when to stop and to be less masochist to yourself too.
33. Be yourself, but never be too comfortable
Sometimes we get too comfortable around people, it offends others by what we say or how we act and we are just not aware of. Be yourself, but don't forget to have a little sensitivity around you.
Weird is okay, but don’t be a creep.
34. Do one thing at a time
Multitasking can sometimes come in handy, but it's better to focus at one thing at a time; it could make you more productive.
35. Don't rush
Take your time on things, forget the impulse mind. And things will be where they're supposed to--- at the right time and the right place. Chill.
Sometimes I need to remind myself about this too, but fast-paced HK is making me do it. :p
36. The person with fewer things, but most experience always wins
I've met different kinds of people and learned that those who travel a lot may not have much, but what they can share to you is so much more than money; it's experience, and they just totally win at it.
And because false wants and too much materialism is exhausting. So, no thank you.
37. Act now!
There are things needed to be done and must be done now. Do not procrastinate.
38. Be strong, but not rude
Sometimes, we try to act strongly towards the rough road we encounter in life but always remember your manners. Keep them with you, no matter how rough the road gets, and this will hurt people and yourself less.
39. Think before you act
Think. Pause for a while and listen. Think twice if you have to.You'll never know what you could've said might have brought so much damage to people you love. There's no time machine to bring back things you've said and done.
40. Sometimes, being kind is more important than being right
You don't always have to be right. Sometimes, just sucking in your pride could be right.
41. Work Hard
Nothing can be done without hard work; in your job, relationships or for whatever that is you want in life. Someone has to make an effort to keep up with something (or someone) you want to achieve.
42. You don't always have to know everything
Sometimes there are things better left unsaid and left unknown. It hurts less that way. (unless you are cheating on your partner. ..because srsly, just pick ONE!!!)
43. Sometimes you have to be THE bitch
People hate a smart mouth, and some people hate strong, and highly opinionated people. But sometimes you just have to say it and speak your mind (which most people will think that you're kind of a harsh bitch).
44. Learn to say NO, and know when to STOP
I'm doing this now, and sometimes I feel like it's my favourite thing because it feels good AF. LOL
I figured you can't be too nice (after 28 years *rolls eyes*), and why it feels good? Because saying "no" to things and giving priority to more important things or people for your self and well being is awesome.
Here's something I keep telling myself especially when I'm swamped with work (or just drowning myself with so much work, and I don't even know why). So I try to maximize 24 hours...from meetings to events to teaching to dinner and drinks and getting wasted (sometimes), and getaways with people that matter, because I'm pretty sure after a hectic day, spending time with awesome people that I love is worth it....right? right??? rightttt??? HAHA!
